We had a great time seeing Lisa's college classmate Michael at Upper Room Brewery in Kearney this weekend.

We really can't thank Michael and so many other Nebraska brewers enough for all the support and advice they've given us along the way. We look forward to having them join us in Ogallala once we finally get those doors open here at Second Chapter Brewing!

Make sure to pay him a visit in Kearney and #drinklocalNE.
<![CDATA[Lake Mac Shack]]>Sun, 20 Nov 2022 07:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/lake-mac-shack
We are excited to announce a partnership with Lake Mac Shack to have a food truck on site here at the brewery in downtown Ogallala. If you haven't already tried their food -- paninis, crepes, and baked goods like honey cakes -- you are in for a treat!!!

Follow their Facebook page for announcements about menu and hours, and come find the big blue trailer in our lot once it's open!
<![CDATA[More floors...]]>Mon, 07 Nov 2022 07:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/more-floorsIn case you were wondering, yes, we are still working on those floors!

A first coat of finish was applied this weekend, with more to follow in order to withstand the inevitable craft beer spills! Refinishing these original hardwood floors has certainly not been quick or easy, but we hope you'll agree that it's worth the effort to give them a Second Chapter.

On a related note, several long-time Ogallala community members have told us stories about getting to roller skate here some time before it became a library in 1954. We hope that 70 years from now, these floors will still be telling stories!
<![CDATA[Hardwood Restoration is Hard Work]]>Fri, 14 Oct 2022 06:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/hardwood-restoration-is-hard-work
Somewhere -- underneath decades-old carpet, gobs of glue, and a galaxy of floor staples -- is a beautiful maple floor.

Scrape, scrape, scrape...
<![CDATA[Flight Boards]]>Tue, 27 Sep 2022 06:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/flight-boardsSeveral of the bookshelves that had been in the old library are getting a "Second Chapter" as our custom-built card catalog flight boards. Wonderful local craftsmanship by Justin Miller. Thank you!
<![CDATA[Deck Railing]]>Sat, 10 Sep 2022 06:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/deck-railing
Have you noticed all the progress on our deck and railing? We think it's going to be an awesome space to enjoy a craft beer in downtown Ogallala.
<![CDATA[Second Chapter]]>Fri, 02 Sep 2022 19:52:54 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/second-chapter
Second Chapter Brewing represents a “Second Chapter” in several ways. Not only will this be a new chapter for the building that was previously the library, but this is a new chapter for us personally as business owners here in Ogallala, and a new chapter for the Kraus family, which has a pre-Prohibition brewing legacy.

If you're looking for the next chapter in your career, we are currently hiring for a Taproom Manager and we will soon be recruiting bartending staff.

See our current listings here.
<![CDATA[Batch One!]]>Mon, 08 Aug 2022 06:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/batch-oneSunday evening was a beautiful night here in Ogallala to fire up the kettle for the first time. It won't be long until we can break in our new deck and enjoy the sunset with a cold craft beer...
<![CDATA[Our First Grain Shipment]]>Fri, 22 Jul 2022 06:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/our-first-grain-shipmentWe received our first shipment of grain Wednesday morning. That also meant we got to try out our slide here at Second Chapter Brewing! That's right, our grain moves down into the basement for storage courtesy of the former Sutherland City Park slide and gravity. It beats taking the stairs!

Huge thanks to Lisa's cousin Tim Kraus for helping out for the day. If only we could have convinced him to try the slide himself...

<![CDATA[Grain in, Grain out]]>Fri, 08 Jul 2022 06:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/stories/grain-in-grain-outOne of the many challenges of establishing a brewery in a split-level building is getting the grain (which is heavy!) in and out of the building. Part of our solution is to store and mill the grain downstairs and then use this flex auger to bring the raw ingredients up to the brew kettle.

P.S. If you are interested in using the spent grain after we have brewed, we would love to hear from you!
