<![CDATA[Second Chapter Brewing - Stories]]>Thu, 16 May 2024 20:50:10 -0600Weebly<![CDATA[Goodall City Library]]>Fri, 05 Apr 2024 06:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/blog/goodall-city-library
Have you noticed the two plaques inside our doorway?
Funds were donated by Cindy and Dale Shoemaker to install plaques from the former Goodall City Library entrance at the current entrance of Second Chapter Brewing. Cindy (Stone) Shoemaker is the grandniece of Clarice and Robert Goodall.

According to Cindy, Clarice loved the community of Ogallala and contributed to many projects such as the public library, Goodall Rec Center, Goodall Girl Scout camp, Mansion on the Hill, and a wonderful animated Christmas display called Fantasyland. Her goal was to brighten the experiences of Ogallala citizens.

We had the chance to meet Cindy and Dale when they visited Ogallala for Cindy's Ogallala High School class reunion last summer. When we showed her the plaques that had been removed from their original place on the building, she was very moved to see these tangible artifacts from her family's history.

While we had always hoped to re-mount these so that everyone could see them and appreciate the history of this building, the Shomakers' gift allowed us to pursue that goal without further delay. We are grateful for their generosity and honored to help preserve their family's legacy in our community.

We are also thrilled to soon bring back our Goodall Golden Ale, which celebrates the generous foundation of Ogallala's former library. Pictured here with the plaques and newspaper clippings is a sample of the unfermented wort. We were able to dry-hop the beer today and it won't be too long until this smooth, golden ale is out of the fermenter and back on tap. Cheers to a new generation of community engagement and philanthropy in Ogallala!

<![CDATA[Leah Guerrero]]>Fri, 16 Feb 2024 07:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/blog/leah-guerrero
She's goofy. She's sweet. She's always smiling and laughing. She usually knows what customers want as soon as they walk in the door. She thrives in a bit of chaos. She's confident that she can handle whatever comes her way with an, "I got this." She does NOT like mornings.

Come see Leah Guerrero today and wish her a very happy birthday. You can buy her a drink token to celebrate later if you'd like.

Last week, she marked her first anniversary here at Second Chapter Brewing. We're so lucky that she is on our team and in our family.

<![CDATA[National Pizza Day]]>Fri, 09 Feb 2024 07:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/blog/national-pizza-day
Today is National Pizza Day! Come celebrate with Shome Slice Pizza at Second Chapter Brewing from 5-8 p.m.

This is Chris and Holly Cornelius' first jaunt with a commercial pizza truck, so we wanted to share a bit more about them:

"We believe that a delicious pizza is the result of simple ingredients used well. The secret to our NY-style crust is the second bake. That gives it the perfect crunch and the perfect bite. We also believe in supporting our communities, so any tips received will go towards an organization in the community we are serving in. This Friday, any tips received will be donated to Pathways/WRC in Ogallala."

Congratulations to our first- and second-place finishers in our first-ever Puzzles & Pints competition on Saturday! Not only did they take home the puzzles, but they walked away with gift cards and bragging rights!

It was a fun afternoon watching all the teams puzzle away and capping off our anniversary week celebrations. Turns out this 500-piece tiger puzzle was quite a challenge, with so many areas of orange fur!

Trivia Night continues this week, starting at 7 tonight. Hope to see you soon.

<![CDATA[Read Anything!]]>Tue, 16 Jan 2024 07:00:00 GMThttp://secondchapterbrewing.com/blog/read-anything
On this extremely cold day, we hope you are somewhere warm, where the only work you have to do is to work your way through a stack of good books and a Second Chapter brew. (Remember those Trashy Romance cans you hid from your relatives over the holidays? Are they still in your fridge?)

Finish a few pages and then plan to join us on Wednesday evening at 6:00 for our Read Anything Book Club! ---> https://fb.me/e/15eVKygQG

This is an informal monthly meeting as part of our "Books & Brews" series to talk about anything related to books. Bring a book to trade if you'd like.

I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts on the first novel I've finished in forever. It was nice to read something that wasn't a children's book or a "How to Start a Brewery for Dummies" manual.

Stay warm!

Third Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.
  • January 17
  • February 21
  • March 20
  • April 17
  • May 15

PS - Thank you to all those who brave the elements to keep the rest of us safe and snug at home!
