Drink Local

10/30/2023

Thank you for drinking #NebraskaBrewed beer all throughout #drinklocalne month! Breweries help drive positive development in both rural and urban communities across this great state.

We must admit that we cheated a little on the pledge to drink only Nebraska beers this month though... A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to join others from our county and from across Nebraska to visit several Kansas communities as part of #E3 (Energizing Entrepreneurial Ecosystems). We made sure to sample some brews from across our southern border while we were there!

One thing that stood out in many towns throughout our tour was that #breweries and #taprooms serving local beer are often a cornerstone of a community. We are proud to have established #Ogallala's first brewery here at #SecondChapter Brewing.

Cheers to drinking local!

#PrycePower: Clear Our Shelves!

10/20/2023

On Monday, October 16, 8-year-old Pryce Gette was severely injured in a car accident. We happened to be talking with his parents, Reggie Skinner and Jeff Gette, when they got the phone call that no parent ever wants to receive.

We have been fortunate to get to know Reggie, Jeff, and Pryce much better over the past year, as they are members at the brewery, vendors of nearly all of our customized merchandise, friends, and community members. Pryce has been a gymnastics and soccer buddy to our son, and he has been known to entertain a whole taproom with his tractor noises or card tricks!

Pryce has a long road to recovery ahead of him and we would like to support his family.

Throughout October, we will donate 10% of all of our merchandise sales directly to the Skinner-Gette family. Help us clear our shelves so that we can order more from 5 Star Custom Designs and support their business too.

Online sales for taproom pickup or shipping are also available from our website: Online store.

Please share and spread some love to this family.

UPDATE:
Much as we anticipated, we're not the only ones who want to help the Gette-Skinner family during this difficult time. If you'd like to join in and support Pryce Gette's recovery, don't be shy. Please copy this idea and make it work for your business.

In our case, we're pledging to donate 10% of all our merchandise sales for the rest of the month to the family. We chose this because it will help clear our shelves and prompt more orders from their family business, 5 Star Custom Designs.

Do what works for you. We suspect they're going to need all types of help during his recovery. Message us if you want to bounce an idea. Cross-promote other businesses. Share. Pray. Donate or shop their stuff if you can.

Raise a glass to Drink Local Nebraska Month with our latest homegrown brew!

We're thrilled to present our SMaSH IPA. Using only a "Single Malt" (Maris Otter) and "Single Hop" (Chinook) allows the depth of these ingredients to really shine. Our SMaSH also features local Chinook hops, straight from Chris and Holly Cornelius' farm in Perkins County.

Some Mystery and Some Humor (SMaSH IPA)
During an already busy brew week, we received an unexpected message from one of our brewery members on August 14.

“Do you have any interest in some fresh free hops?” Holly wrote. “They are ready this week.”

The scorching August heat meant now or never, so Rick worked fast to research and write a recipe for a new SMaSH IPA.

Adding “Some Mystery and Some Humor” to the equation, we had never brewed using "wet," or fresh, hops, and we could only guess what the IBU (international bitterness units) range was for these hops.
